Mineral Bloom
Where mineral colour spreads across the land in unexpected layers.

Mineral Bloom came from being completely stopped by the colour.
From above, these landscapes are filled with lilacs, violets, soft golds and earthy mineral tones that seem to wash into one another. In places the colour is delicate and almost translucent; in others it gathers into stronger bands and patches, creating shapes that feel surprisingly painterly.
That is what interested me most about this series. I wasn’t looking for a traditional landscape. I was looking at the way colour was forming its own composition across the surface — the small shifts, the irregular edges and the places where one colour suddenly gave way to another.
There is a softness to these images that I really love, but they are also full of detail. The closer you look, the more you start to see: fine lines, mineral deposits, tiny changes in tone and the marks left by water moving through the landscape.
Mineral Bloom is really about those natural combinations of colour that I could never have planned myself. They were already there. I just had to find the right way to photograph them.
The series includes Drift of Gold, Lilac Dust, Through Gold and Violet Wash.
