Boundaries
Where changing perspective reveals a much bigger picture.

Boundaries
Boundaries began with a shape.
From above, I saw this small, almost complete square sitting in an extraordinary field of orange. I moved in close and stripped away nearly all the surrounding landscape. At that scale it became something completely abstract — a dark geometric line surrounded by colour.
But then I started pulling back.
With each change in perspective, more of the landscape appeared. The little square that seemed so dominant in the first photograph became smaller and smaller as the lines, edges and larger structure of the salt evaporation pond were revealed.
That progression became the series.
Open Circuit, Enclosure and Threshold are three photographs of the same landscape, taken from increasingly wider viewpoints. Nothing about the subject changes, but our understanding of it does.
Colour was what caught my attention first — that intense orange was impossible for me to ignore — but it was the relationship between scale, geometry and perspective that kept me photographing.
Boundaries is about how differently we can see something when we're given a little more of the picture.
